Orange County Center for Contemporary Art (OCCCA)
The OCCCA or the Orange Country Center for contemporary Art show cases works by established as well as emerging artists. The center itself is run exclusively by artists and places particular emphasis on local artists. OCCCA is also actively engaged in organizing lectures on a variety of subjects, musical concerts, and performance art.
It participates in programs of public outreach aimed at cultural diversity. The major objective of OCCCA is promoting 'freedom of expression' in arts and providing an avenue to develop and explore ideas relating to contemporary art.
The art scene in Orange County itself is eclectic with a number of cultural museums, performance venues, places of historical interest, fascinating festivals and artist districts. The 2000 seat 'Renee and Henry Segerstrom concert Hall', the Samueli Theater with a seating capacity of 5000 people, and the arts plaza housed in 46,000 square foot with its flawless acoustics and striking architecture emphasizes Orange County's focus on arts.
Orange County is also home for a number of theatrical productions acclaimed all over the world. The Crystal Cathedral featuring over 10,000 glass panes and designed by Philip Johnson, the famous architect is another example of the county's passion for art.
OCCCA has a history close to 3 decades and constantly encourages both the established as well as emerging artists to experiment, and explore through risk taking several ideas relating to contemporary art, all in an atmosphere sans censorship.
OCCCA also organizes several programs to afford budding and established artists the opportunity of exhibiting their creations. The charges for the facility are very nominal at $5.0 for every linear foot on the wall. OCCCA takes care of hosting the events and in the process, ensuring a decent stream of visitors.
