Stadium
The Anaheim stadium or The Big A, as it is lovingly called by fans and visitors who travel in Anaheim, is a significant landmark in the history of Anaheim. Originally Anaheim Stadium, it changed its name at least thrice and was also called the Edison International Field of Anaheim when Edison International Power took over the rights of renovation.
But that was in 1997. In 1996, the Walt Disney Company, which gained enough rights on the board to own the California Angels, had taken over the rights to renovate the Anaheim stadium. They agreed to pay for 70% of the $100 million renovation project.
The stadium got to be called the Big A because of the A-frame scoreboard hosted behind the outfield wall. It was the largest scoreboard built at the time. It now boasts of bleacher seats, geysers and artificial rocks cover a mountainside covered with real trees. The beautification was painstaking but worthwhile.
The Angel Stadium has been the home of the California Angels since they moved from Los Angeles and chose Anaheim to be their home ground. Despite the early beginnings, which are traced back to 1964, today the Angel stadium is one of the finest ballparks this side of the country and is home to one of the finest teams of Major League Baseball with all the modern day facilities and entertainment features that any baseball fan would love. The association between one of the finest baseball teams in America with that of the stadium is a unique concept and remains so till today.
Its proximity to Disneyland makes it a part of the major Anaheim travel attractions along with the theme park. Amtrak and Metrolink's rail station at the edge of the stadium makes it easily accessible to all.
The Anaheim stadium has hosted major American professional baseball and football league games and has also had successful musical concerts by many celebrity artists and groups like The Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Madonna, to name a few. The Anaheim stadium is a must see for any visitor who travel to Anaheim.
Have fun out there!
