Anaheim Museum

The Anaheim Museum is located in an innovative Carnegie Library Building which was built in 1908 with a funding from the Carnegie foundation. Popular Los Angeles Architect John C. Austin worked with Anaheim's prudent Germans and Scots to meet strict cost stipulation tied to this project.

The building had to lead several lives, first as a public library, afterward as the city's workers department and lastly as a historic museum. It is interesting the amount of different roles that this building has played. The number of different things that must have gone on here is very vast, and must range from visitors arriving by horse-drawn carriage in the 1910s, to people logging onto http://www.poker.de/, not to mention everyone else appreciating truly amazing art in the museum. It is the only Carnegie Building left over in Orange County, which once had 5 buildings named similarly, and boasts a construction system that is very unique.

John C. Austin was a popular architect in Los Angeles and was brought in to design a unique building which was to be the Los Angeles City Hall, Shrine Auditorium and Griffith Park Observatory. If it had it not been for the local Historical Society building, the Anaheim Museum may well have been demolished in 1973 as part of a redevelopment of the county.

The Anaheim Museum was listed on the National Register in the year 1979, the private players joined with the city to reinstate the decaying structure. It re-opened as a museum in the year 1987.

Photographic displays and exhibit pieces within the museum feature the city's 140-year history, from its beginning as a vineyard for Los Angeles wine makers in 1860 to the building wired with high-tech fiber optic cables in the 1990s.

On the upper level of the Anaheim Museum, the north and south gallery exhibit works of art by modern artists. The rest of the central room, there are details of historic landmarks such as the Fox, Grand and Fairyland theaters, all were demolished and the best-known site in the county, the Disneyland.

It is a must visit for anyone going to travel in Anaheim CA, for the history of the place is as unique as it can get.
